War of the Searches
A fascinating, somewhat long Fortune article about Microsoft's challenge presented by Google, and how Google is winning:

I love Google's innovations, I'm a big fan. In this war, I'm taking sides with the nimble underdog. Google's so cool.

Their Web Accelerator program was genius. Innovative and original. Of course, some naysayers would argue that making all password/cookie protected pages publically accessible is perhaps a minor security problem, but hey, they are Google. Lets forgive em, since after all, they aren't Micro$oft.
